Homeschool Assessment

I have decided to homeschool my 14year old son in grade 8. He does very poorly in school. He does not get the necessary support even though the teacher-learner ratio is 1:13.
I am a teacher myself. What I want to know is how do I go about with exams?
I will be using NCS/CAPS programme for grade 8. Does my son have to complete an external exam for the year for progression to the next grade? If so where do I register for external examination?

Answer to Homeschool Assessment

Well done for recognizing that the school system is not working for your child and for making the decision to homeschool him.

I would encourage you to try to renew your mind about how children learn as teachers often battle the most with making the mindshift that homeschooling requires.

You see, homeschooling is not SCHOOL AT HOME. Read Curriculum Compliance to see why following the national curriculum is not a legal requirement and may NOT be in your best interests or your child’s!

Since it is not obligatory to follow the national curriculum, there is also no need to have your child examined externally.

You will observing your child’s progress on a daily basis, so you will know how well he is doing or where he is struggling. An examination is unlikely to tell you anything you won’t already know about your child’s school work.
