Wendy Young has a heart for encouraging and helping other home educating families. She was born in Johannesburg and her family moved around South Africa as she grew up. After school, Wendy studied Beauty Therapy. Finding that this wasn’t really her cup of tea, she began working at a bank until her first child was born. Through the early years of parenthood, she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Geography and Biblical Archaeology & English Literature.
The Young family decided that homeschooling would be their chosen educational path when their eldest child was 2. They began homeschooling when she was 5 and a few more children had been added to the family.
Now, 30 years later and living in Cape Town, Wendy & Gavin have graduated all their children from the HOMEschool. 3 have completed their tertiary studies and are pursuing their careers. Of the younger two, their son is doing his Masters in Engineering and their youngest, her teaching degree via Unisa.
Even as the face of homeschooling is changing in South Africa, she is still passionate about encouraging moms to embrace their homes and a gentle lifestyle with their children in the way that home education offers. Wendy offers families private homeschool consultations, is a familiar face at homeschool curriculum expos, does small group encouragement mornings and hosts homeschooling questions and answer sessions for parents in support groups.
