Things to do in Kwazulu Natal

Homeschool Fieldtrips & Outings

Things to do in Kwazulu Natal

Please remember that you too can help us build this section by using the form at the bottom of the page to submit your own outing in Kwazulu Natal.

1. We took a visit to the Natural Science Museum in Durban. Amazing stuffed animals to look at, every kind of bird you can imagine.

2. Umhlanga has a Science Center at the Gateway. Very informative and children can do hands on experiments. There is also an Imax Theatre at the Gateway with many educational documentaries.

3. Ushaka Marine World in Durban is an amazing place to take the homeschoolers.

4. The Little Animal Farm in Botha's Hill, the children can ride a tractor, feed animals and even milk a cow.

5. A bit further up Botha's Hill is the Raptor Park where you can see Raptor Bird Shows.

6. The Umgheni Bird Park is a must. Many beautiful birds to see and a lovely bird show.

7. Of course there are the many wonderful beaches to visit too. Collecting sea shells, coral, sea weed, writing in the sand and even just enjoying the fresh air. Scotborough and Umhlanga beaches are lovely, as well as Balito and Shaka Rock.

8. A visit to the Durban harbour to look at the boats is good, you could include a visit to the Roma (which is a revolving restaraunt), just for fun.

9. We even like to visit our local SPCA in Kloof, they have donkeys, peacocks, strays, second hand bookshop, tea garden, plant nursary etc.

10. Even just going to the local hospital or nursing home to help out, is a good outing for the children, teaching them to care for others.

11. Mitchell Park: Has restaurant, play park, lovely picnic lawns and a zoo. The zoo has a minimal entry fee (under R10) with a large variety of birds, mamals and reptiles.

12. Botanical Gardens: Free entry. Tea house. Beautiful lawns, flowers, trees, a pond with water birds. A mixture of indigenous and exotic plants and trees. For a fee there is occassionally music at the lake and plays under the fig tree.
