Issue #17 - May 2008
Old Wineskins for New WineWell, here we are headlong into the second school term for 2008…doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun! Shirley and Wendy have both been through a time of learning about being set free from old mindsets and patterns of behavior. This is not a recent happening, but rather an on going process as God gently peels off old ways of doing things to replace them with His life giving ways. We would like to focus on sharing what we have learnt with you in this month’s E-zine. AdviceCommon times of stress in a home are when moms are rushing to get everyone ready to go out, or do their chores or prepare a meal. These times can cause old behavior patterns to surface and mom can start to be short with her children, yell at them or even be unnecessarily harsh towards them.Other circumstances in our homeschools can also bring old mindsets to the fore. In high school, Wendy had a particularly harsh teacher who left scars on her esteem. These same issues were raised time and again in her own homeschool. Shirley has had to deal with an assault on her emotions due to certain relational issues that have arisen recently. How do we as busy moms begin to be set free from old mindsets, hurts or be delivered from a storm? There are a few issues here. One is aggressive obedience to the Lord and believing that Love Never Fails. When we begin to get impatient with our children in any circumstance, we need to be sure that we govern our interactions with them based on the love relationship we have with our Father in heaven. He is patient with us as we learn to aggressively obey Him in the small and the big things. In the process of obeying him we learn to listen to our children, plan for time crunches, help them when they need help and we do not yell at them. This is creating a new wineskin for Him to pour in the new wine. The second is prayer, the here-and-now-in-the-moment-payers of a heart that desires to be set free from old hurts so that we can be free to love and train our children. The last is if your emotions are being assaulted for any reason due to relational issues, to remember that God is our shelter and He is our Rock, Our Fortress and in Him we will trust. By way of summary: 1. Aggressively obey the Lord in the big and small things (John 14:15-21) 2. Pray constantly and abide in the Lord (John 15:4) 3. Make sure you are not looking at the whirlwind but rather look at Him who is your shelter. (Psalm 91:1-2)
Free Printables
This month we have three historical persons notebooking pages for you. These characters are studied in our Footprints Heritage Program. They are Rachel De Beer, Simon and William Adriaan Van Der Stel. You can download the worksheets from our free printable page
Websites Wikipedia.org is an amazing online source of information on just about any topic. Often one of our children will want to dig deeper into a topic or personality so I have taught them how to get a wiki search straight off. Simply type in the person or item you want to research and add “wiki” on the end and voila…you have hyperlinked information at your fingertips. Remember, you can also use your search engine to search for images of anything you are learning about and at You Tube you can find educational video clips of anything you are learning about. We have enjoyed watching salmon migrating upstream, a venus fly-trap in action, mechanical seed dispersal, remote operated underwater vehicles and more. Make sure you supervise your children on the You Tube site as sometimes there are links on the landing page to unsuitable material!! Footprints News A Footprints Open Day is planned for the 22nd May in Cape Town. Please check ourevents page for other happenings.Till next month, we wish you every blessing
