Issue #010 - September 2007

Helping Homeschoolers

As homeschool curriculum vendors we are often faced with questions about buying second hand homeschooling materials.

We have had to make a decision about where we stand on this issue and in our homes, we try to always support other curriculum vendors by buying new. However, we know that almost by definition, homeschool families have to survive on one income – we’ve been there, done that too and struggled through really financially tough years. (We literally started Footprints with our monthly grocery money!)

Early on in our homeschooling years, we came across this humorous article and we believe it to be worth passing on: Betty Borrower and Barbara Blessing

Advice & Encouragement

There is an old Sunday school song about being a sunbeam for Jesus. One of the lines ends like this: “You in your small corner and I in mine.” Each of us has a little corner of the world that we can light up with Jesus’ love and his light.

As homeschoolers, each one of us should take up the ministry of encouragement and uplift those around us and especially new homeschoolers that are starting out. We all have a testimony about how we found answers to questions, overcame our doubts, followed our convictions, persevered through bad days, handled questions or criticism from skeptics and so on – all of which could light up a dark corner for someone else.

We hope that our website will be a light to guide the way for others too, whether they use our products or not!

As the pioneer homeschool generation in SA, many families are unsure of High School Homeschool options. We have added some pages that give info about internationally recognized school leaving options, other local school leaving courses as well as Afrikaans matric options.

Free Printables

We have added some more free Bible copywork pages for you to download. They are taken from the Little Footprints programme but are suitable for all ages. Look for them on our Free Printable Worksheets page.

Footprints News

Wendy has just got back from a week-long ‘honeymoon’ trip with her husband to London and Shirley’s parents are also currently touring the UK on a month long trip, paid for by Shirley and her two brothers as a ruby wedding anniversary gift.

How were we able to afford these overseas trips? No, we don’t have a contact at SAA or BA – we both have SBI and you could too!

Read these case studies and see just how do-able it is to start an online global business – you don’t even have to sell a thing!

Already, local homeschooling friends and acquaintances of ours have signed up and started websites about topics like Cape Town Holidays, Kalahari Trophy Hunting, Unschooling, Science Fair Projects and more!

Dates to Diarise

Check out the Homeschool Events page for upcoming homeschool expos around SA.

We'll be at the Johannesburg Expo at Mosaik Theatre in Fairlands on 10 November(and maybe at one in East London on 20 October too! )

Till next month, we wish you every blessing

Wendy and Shirley
